Giambattista Piranesi: Vedute di Roma

Ansicht des Fontanone del Gianicolo (Acqua Paola) von Osten mit dem Casino Farnese im Hintergrund

Von Osten blickt der Betrachter auf die Acqua Paola, heute Fontanone di Gianicolo genannt. Der Fontanone bildete seit 1612 den Kopf eines Römischen Aquaeductes und diente der Wasserversorgung. Er wurde von Giovanni Fontana und Flaminio Ponzio in Anlehnung an die Form eines Triumphbogens gebaut und 1690 von Carlo Fontana um das große Brunnenbecken erweitert.

Piranesi stellt das Leben um den Fontanone sehr belebt dar. Tiefe Schatten liegen über dem rechten Vordergrund.Das Textfeld ist nun nicht mehr außerhalb der Darstellung, sondern ist als Schriftband links unten in die Darstellung eingefügt.
