Giambattista Piranesi: Vedute di Roma

Ansicht des Tempio di Antonino e Faustina [Kirche S. Lorenzo in Miranda] von Süden

Auf dem Campo Vaccino des Forum Romanum stehend, blickt der Betrachter von Süden auf den Tempio di Antonino e Faustina, dessen Säulenfront bei der nachantiken Umwandlung des Tempels in den Bau einer Kirche in die Fassade von S. Lorenzo in Miranda eingefügt worden ist. Sehr lebendig hat Piranesi die unterschiedlichen Fassadenstrukturen der Kirchensüdwand erfasst, insbesondere die Struktur der Steinquader. Im Vordergrund bevölkern Touristen zwischen halbversunkenen Trümmern das Forum.

Die verschatteten Partien wurden von Piranesi in dieser Druckfassung noch nicht überarbeitet.
